Meerkats class is a KS2 class within the Pre-formal cohort with 8 pupils, a teacher and four teaching assistants. We learn best with clear structure to our school day and therefore follow a TEACCH rotation approach. This involves personalised learning opportunities to take part in; group work; 1:1 learning; independent workstations and leisure time. This consistent approach to our learning helps us to understand what is expected during lessons, which in turn helps us to develop our confidence and independence in learning about the world around us. In Meerkats class we follow a personalised curriculum that ensures a total communication approach, focusing on developing social communication skills, emotional-regulation, and independence. We are a very active learners and benefit from lots of sensory experiences, structured play and hands on activities. We are at our most engaged when exploring nature, taking part in sensory circuits and during outdoor learning activities
